Flower Child Wellness

Cultivating love, beauty, peace through a natural, holistic approach

Hello Lovelies!

I’m Lindsey, Holistic Coach, Author, and Flower Child!

Growing up barefoot in rural South Carolina, I experienced from an early age how restorative, healing, and beautiful nature can be.

But we get so far thrown from those little girls with flowers in their hair, amazed by the scent of a flower or the colorful streaks of a breathtaking sunset. We are told that we have to look and be “PERFECT.”

I fell into this trap and spent most of my teens and 20’s struggling with body image issues. I thought in order to attract love, feel complete and worthy, I had to look and be perfect. (Sound familiar?) Another level of shame that came with my body was the fact that as a 16-year-old, I was diagnosed with epilepsy. I felt even more awkward in my body. Although it was manageable through medication, I experienced side effects that caused changes in my appearance, like weight gain and hair loss. I felt as if I had no control over my body.

The Problem

Fast forward to my late 20’s. I had just had my heart broken by New York City and moved back with my family to South Carolina. It was a low point of my life, and I felt many parts of my life were off balanced. Most noticeably the way I felt in and about my body. With my life being forced into a break, I took time to evaluate how exactly I wanted to feel. It was so simple. I wanted to feel CONFIDENT, BEAUTIFUL, and HEALTHY.

I was also working on writing my novel and with this came even more evidence of my perfectionist tendencies.

My first goal was to breakdown limiting beliefs and rid myself of the negative self-talk I had been telling myself for years. I started viewing myself as a creative whole person instead of pieces of me that needed fixing. I stopped looking in the mirror and criticizing all the things I didn’t like.

As I adopted a holistic, natural approach to my overall wellness, I started to heal myself through redefining my eating patterns, moving my body in ways that made me feel confident and free, and exploring plant-based solutions for my skin and health issues. After all these changes, I didn’t morph into a different person, but instead I returned to that free-spirited young girl who was fulfilled and well.

But ladies, our wellness journeys are not linear. There are always ups and downs.

I had moved to a new city, had a very stressful job, and was still trying to find time to create and have a social life. I experienced a type of burn out that I had never before. Then, I started to experience issues with my epilepsy. For the very first time, I was terrified by my disorder. I was so frustrated and scared. I hated my body for not working and also hated that I had let myself get so far off my wellness path.

The Solution

I needed to learn all I could about lifestyle changes to support my disorder. My quest led me to my Functional Nutrition Coaching program, a holistic way to address the needs of individuals by examining their whole lifestyle. There I discovered an entirely new world of herbs, foods, and supplements that helped me.

I discovered that my hormones were playing a role in my epilepsy and stress was a major factor in this. To get them under control, I needed to eat to support my hormones in combination with stress relieving techniques. Not only did my new knowledge help me get my seizures under control, but there were some pleasing benefits. By balancing my hormones, I experienced more radiate skin, more energy to create, and better sleep!

Y’all, I can’t stress enough how a holistic approach to wellness changed my life. Not only was I able to improve my health, but I was also able to heal my perfectionist tendencies.
